We all met up years ago in a famous Detroit recording studio that Artie Fields owned called The Alhambra Burlesque Theater to do a demo of "Blue-Eyed" Soul music. From that humble beginning, the current Automatic Mojo was spawned. For a short spell (19 years) we were known as The Space Cadets around town. We chose to retire that name when we found it was registered to a XXX show based in the UK. Combining the instincts of working together with natural musical ability, we have had a long and successful history of delivering solid performances and satisfying audiences night after night.

Chris Chila - Keyboards/Vocals

Christine "Chris" Chila (Morand) has been a professional vocalist/pianist for 25 years. She has performed in singing/dancing groups, including the Gene Grier singers, Oakland University's Meadowbrook Estate and Schuss Mountain's "Schussy Cats". Her voice has been featured on many local radio and television jingles. She began her career in college with vocal jazz and jazz bands at Oakland University and a Latin group at Mott College. Chris has performed in national venues such as Walt Disney's Cruise Line,  Meadowbrook Music Festival, Masonic Temple, Detroit's International Jazz Festival, and the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, plus several touring bands in the Eastern US. Chris has had the privilege of performing with Mitch Ryder, Marcus Belgrave, the Platters and Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits.  She also performed lead roles in productions of Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz, You Can't Take It With You, Guys and Dolls and the pianist/vocalist in the dinner show theater version of Tony and Tina's Wedding. Chris continues to sing, play, and arrange professionally,  and especially enjoys her role as "Mom" at home with her three wonderful children.

Doug Hamborsky - Guitar/Keyboards/Vocals
It was a plastic ukulele that launched Doug's musical career many years ago, and he hasn’t looked back since.  Doug met Jef while they were in college, when they were both retained as studio musicians.  He has enjoyed performing with many local groups including Jocelyn’ B, Bill Meyer, Street Life, Family Portrait, Vintage and the incorrigible and loveable Space Cadets.  He maintains a home studio, where he records Christmas CDs featuring his family and friends.

Jef Reynolds - Bass/Vocals
Jef's experiences has taken him around the world, backing artists such as Lesley Gore, Lou Christie and Alex Chilton. Jef spent his formative years playing with a collection of great jazz musicians around Detroit, including legendary Funk Brother Joe Messina and Ralphe Armstrong.  He has also worked as an on-call session player at Cloudborne, Ron Rose and Producers Color Service Studios.  Recently, he produced Alberta Adams' latest release, Detroit is My Home, and fronts the Jef Reynolds Jazz Combo.
Bill Hulet - Drums
Bill began playing drums at the tender age of six, and studied drums under the late Ray Parker at the East Detroit Conservatory of Music.  After attending Western Michigan University, majoring in music, he commenced touring throughout the Midwest with countless bands, an experience that has made him both resilient and aware.  He also has a number of recording projects to his credit, most recently with the Magic Poetry Band.

Mojo Monkey
The Mojo Monkey agreed to be the band's spokesmonkey over a rousing evening of arboreal shuffleboard in the jungles of western Africa. He's everything the band's not: blue, limber and cute.
